A tour of Lausanne without the ups and downs
This is an unusual original walking tour, taking advantage of the technical facilities available in the town centre.
If in ancient times, building a town on high ground was an assurance of security, the deep valleys and steep slopes, which are a part of the Lausanne landscape made life difficult for the inhabitants during many centuries.
Thanks to the building in the 19th century of important bridges and the internment of several streams crossing the town, the situation was improved and facilitated the traffic.
Following the inauguration in 2008 of a metro, a first in Switzerland, several escalators and lifts have put a finishing touch on the network of underground transport.
Consequently it is now possible to take a tour of Lausanne without the tiresome ups and downs.
