Walking around LAUSANNE ...

... A town to discover

Lausanne, with its gothic Cathedral, its Town Hall, its Castles, its beautiful lakeside region, and the different neighbourhoods.

Come and discover one of the most popular tourist towns in Switzerland.

Discover Lausanne, a town of culture, green parks and charming picturesque streets.

The capital of the Olympic movement, a town with 3 hills and 2 rivers.

A town with an internationally famous university and technical higher education college (EPFL) with students from all over the world.

In every season Lausanne is welcoming and agreeable, and definitely worth visiting.

In the Middle Ages Lausanne was an important seat of the bishop and its Cathedral a centre for pilgrims until the Reformation. From mid 16th to early 19th century, Lausanne was administered by Berne, and the Governor lived in the castle.

Since 1803, Lausanne has been the capital of the Canton of Vaud.

From the18th century onwards Lausanne became very popular with rich foreigners who enjoyed its privileged position by lake Geneva overlooking the French Savoy mountains.
During the following centuries Lausanne became an important study centre, the headquarters of the International Olympic Organisation and numerous sporting federations.

A "green" city with numerous parks, Lausanne has an historical city centre full of charm, steep roads and several stairways.

2 metros and many buses, lifts and escalators, make it easy to visit this hilly town.

Encouraged and supported by the town council and the Canton, the MdA guides of Lausanne will help you discover the multiple facets of this town and its charm whatever the season.

We also offer many different "theme" walks for tourists, the local schools, as well as for groups from other cantons.
